Attention Parents of 6th Grade Students
The Ohio Department of Health has released the immunization requirements for school entry for the fall of 2023. All students entering seventh grade must have a Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) booster and a meningococcal (MCV4) immunization prior to entry in August. The MCV4 vaccination protects against meningitis.
Regarding the Tdap, one dose of Tdap (Adacel or Boostrix) must be given prior to entry to 7th grade. Documentation needs to be submitted, in writing, from the physician, health dept., or medical facility with the date and immunizations given. A note from the parent in NOT sufficient. It is required that the Tdap only, rather than the TD, be given. A TD immunization will be considered invalid. Immunizations may be obtained from your own physician or the County Health Department. It is strongly encouraged that you secure these immunizations this summer, prior to the beginning of school. It is the parent's responsibility to bring the requested documentation to the Middle School office.
Attention Parents of 11th Grade Students:
The Ohio Department of Health has released the immunization schedule for school entry for the fall of 2023. Two doses of meningococcal (MCV4) vaccine must be administered prior to entry to grade 12. This vaccine protects against meningitis. The recommended interval between the first and second dose is 8 weeks. If the first dose of MCV4 was administered on or after the 16th birthday, a 2nd dose is not required.
This immunization is required for ALL 12th grade students enrolled at Rittman High School, including those who attend the Wayne County Career Center, Wayne College, or elsewhere. Documentation needs to be submitted, in writing, from the physician, heath department, or medical facility with the date and immunizations given. A note from the parent is not sufficient. It is the parent's responsibility to be sure the proper documentation is submitted to the school nurse.
